Ashley was sadly orphaned at birth and thanks to the dedication of staff caring for him, and the company of the donkeys he now lives with, he is growing from strength to strength.

As a parent and having visited our projects in Egypt and Ethiopia, I realise the lifestyle our children lead in the UK is somewhat different to those led by children in developing countries, particularly when it comes to household chores and levels of responsibility.

Christmas 'candlelit' present

On Friday 11th December 2009, everyone from the PR Office (Claire Shapcott, Chris Phillips, Suzi Cretney and myself) helped with the Sanctuary’s annual Candlelight evening. From 9.30am until 7pm, we, along with many other staff, were out in force helping to display and light some of the 15,000 candles placed around the grounds.

Historic ink block finds its way to the donkeys

Do you recognise this building? The Donkey Sanctuary has been given an historic ink block in memory of the late Mr Brian Greer.

Mr Greer passed away two years ago, and now his family are finding homes for some of his interesting Sidmouth memorabilia. The ink block they have donated to us depicts buildings at Slade House Farm and possibly came from an auction originally.
