This week, I received some fantastic news: The Donkey Sanctuary has been nominated for an award in the Equestrian Social Media Awards.

We’ve made it through to the finals in the category ‘Best Use of Social Media by a Charity’ in recognition of our Facebook and Twitter activity. This is a huge honour and we’re all thrilled to have been nominated, particularly as our social networking is proving to be an extremely useful way for us to spread the message about the importance of donkey welfare and the work that we do.

Donkeys arrive at the Sanctuary in search of a new home on a weekly basis, but in November 2009 we were surprised to hear that a group of 18 donkeys was on its way to Devon after being rescued from neglect in Yorkshire.

Meeting our Quality Time Volunteers

Keith and Margaret Todd have been donkey owners for many years and make regular visits to our Axnoller farm in Dorset to visit Cliff, a donkey who lived with them until coming to live at the Sanctuary 16 years ago. As huge donkey enthusiasts they were keen to take a more active role at the farm and were therefore interested in enrolling as Quality Time Volunteers (QTVs).
