Devon County Show

Ponk, Bill and Ben

This year's weather at the Devon County Show was sadly wet and cold. Nevertheless, the team cheerfully pulled together and the event proved to be a success. Our donkeys were all impeccably behaved, much admired and generated extra interest, drawing visitors to the stand.

This year we introduced Ponk, Bill and Ben to the donkey showing world for the first time and entered them into the following classes:

  • Best condition and turnout
  • Best gelding
  • Young handler

Although we were a little concerned, thinking these very young and green donkeys might find the experience too exciting, Ponk, Bill and Ben took to the showing world with great aplomb. Their handlers, Jenny Lowe, Tracey Highet and Peter Daubney, despite appearing cool, calm and collected and dressed as professional showmen, in reality, were a bag of nerves!

Show Results

Ponk with handler Jenny Lowe - 2nd in Best Condition and Turnout
Bill with handler Peter Daubney - 4th in Best Gelding
Ponk with handler Imogen Carter - 2nd in Young Handler

The team will be away next week at the Royal Cornwall Show, which is held on 5th-7th June.
