Situated at the heart of The Donkey Sanctuary, the Hayloft restaurant is the ideal place to take a breather during your visit.

This former barn for donkeys has been superbly renovated into a rustic and relaxing restaurant with windows overlooking the donkeys in the Main Yard.

We are open seven days a week from 9.00am each morning for freshly ground coffee, tea and delicious cakes as well as home-cooked traditional breakfasts.

We also have a full café style lunch menu with meals freshly prepared on site using, where possible, seasonal and local ingredients.

All profits from the Hayloft Restaurant go directly to The Donkey Sanctuary.

Our food

We offer a wide range of freshly prepared sandwiches and paninis and also hot meals such as a warming jacket potato or traditional Devon pasty. On our specials board you’re sure to find something to tickle your taste buds. Where possible, we stick to local suppliers and aim to keep our food in tune with the seasons to ensure you get the freshest choices available.

Our delicious coffee, tea and hot chocolate options are all certified fair trade products and make a perfect accompaniment to our mouth-watering cakes or traditional Devon cream teas.

Our menu and specials board include vegetarian and vegan meal options and we offer a gluten-free cake option daily. If you have any specific dietary requirements or food allergies then please contact us beforehand and we will be happy to cater for you.

Smaller visitors are well catered for too; with healthy, child-friendly portions of dinners and the ever popular Donkey Bags, you can be sure that the VIPs in your party are kept happy too.

All day breakfasts

We will be serving all day breakfasts until 1 January 2012 priced at only £6 each which includes a pot of tea or filter coffee for one.

Winter menu lunches

As the nights draw in and temperatures drop, we move over to a winter menu with the emphasis on healthy, warming meals such as stews and soups to help keep chills at bay. All our regular lunch items will still be available but please do check our specials board for more information on our winter meals that are sure to warm your wellies.

Weekend brunch offers

What better way to celebrate the weekend than with a freshly cooked traditional English breakfast? With a broad range of breakfast items from the full English to lighter brekkie bites, the brunch menu will be available from 9.00am until 12.00pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

All the joy of a cooked breakfast with none of the washing up!
