After what seems like months of perpetual rain, the sun has come out at last. Just the sort of weather to be sitting in a park listening to a brass band!
And that's exactly how me and my partner, Dave, spent the afternoon. The Ross-on-Wye Town Band were giving an afternoon performance to help raise funds for the Sanctuary.
During the interval I chatted with some of the band members and found out that there were two volunteer fundraisers - Janet and Peter Bollington. Both had been supporters of the Sanctuary for over 10 yeas. Janet is very passionate about helping donkeys overseas after first seeing their plight when she took a group of girl guides to India. As a volunteer, she has raised an astonishing amount as well as visiting the Sanctuary's work in Mexico and India. She said seeing the work for herself has given her even more drive to carry on fundraising.

The band members are all amateurs and play for enjoyment rather than competing in contests. They were looking to 'play away' so Janet suggested going to the seaside. To take back memories of their visit, I was made official photographer which meant I got to go up on the bandstand and snap away!
I really enjoyed the afternoon listening to the music and watching families enjoying themselves. Even a spectacular green and black dragonfly danced above our heads catching insects in the afternoon sunshine.
