Educating children

Ramesh visiting Woodbury Primary School

Ramesh Kumar is our Ahmedabad Project Co-Ordinator where he runs both the Sanctuary's stationary and mobile clinics in the Gujarat region of India. At the moment he is here in the UK spending time with our veterinary department picking up hints and tips to take back with him to our project in India in December.

In October, both of us visited Woodbury Primary School where Ramesh observed the normal Education and Activities including looking at donkey’s teeth and interacting with the children by grooming and leading the donkeys around the playground.

Ramesh then talked to the children about his role as a vet in India as well as telling them about working donkeys in India. The children seemed really interested and they asked him lots of questions such as - how old is a donkey when it has a baby, how much water do donkeys drink, how do you treat ticks, how fast do donkeys run and how long does a donkey live for?

Both Ramesh and myself found the visit really rewarding. I know that Ramesh will take back some of our teaching methods back to India.
