Literally starving to death

Soad, starving to death

Soad belongs to a farmer in Egypt and she was literally starving to death. Riddled with worms and with poor teeth, she had been unable to eat for two weeks. Despite this, she continued to work every day.

We need your support to fund our overseas clinics to bring relief to thousands of donkeys like Soad.

She was a desperate little thing and typical of the poor condition we find donkeys in overseas. In Egypt, we have three fully operational mobile treatment clinics and our vet Shabaan is in charge of the clinic which visited Meet Kenana, where we found poor Soad. For her owner, Mohammed, our visit came not a moment too soon - Soad really was on the brink of death and he depended on her for everyday transport.

It became clear during the initial health check by Shabaan that Soad’s teeth were in a terrible condition and likely to be the cause of her not eating. Fortunately we had just supplied the mobile clinic with a new dental kit and Shabaan got straight to work rasping her teeth. Just minutes after, Soad was given a fresh clump of greenery and she was simply ravenous and didn’t leave anything to waste - it was her first meal in weeks! She was also given a dose of wormer, treated for some minor wounds and the farrier trimmed her feet.

Please help

Please make a donation. Any donation you feel able to give towards this appeal will help to fund our work overseas, such as running our veterinary clinics and providing treatments for working donkeys like Soad.

We keep our fundraising and administration costs as low as possible so as to ensure the maximum amount of our supporters’ donations being available to be spent on the care and welfare of the donkeys. This year our fundraising and administration costs were 8.4 pence for every £1 of the total income generated for the charity.

Are you a UK taxpayer?

When making a donation, it would be helpful if you could inform us if you are a UK taxpayer to enable us to claim back money from the tax man through the Gift Aid Scheme by completing our gift aid declaration form.
