Before the year is out, I thought I must tell you about a donkey called Sovereign who I met a couple of months ago in New Barn.

I was out with Issy, one of the Sanctuary’s Graphic Designers, taking photos for the Sanctuary’s calendar when we noticed that Sovereign had his head buried deep in a straw feeder…

We waited and waited for Sovereign to lift his head so we could get a photo but he was quite happy munching away. In the end I gave him a gentle tap on the shoulder and he appeared covered in straw. I managed to get these cheeky photos which made me smile.

Unfortunately Sovereign does not feature in The Donkey Sanctuary calendar this year but many of his companions do.
