We are currently providing permanent sanctuary to over 4,000 donkeys and guarantee a life of loving, expert care to each of them.

Many donkeys arriving at our Sanctuaries each week are unwanted or have been neglected. Others come from loving homes for a secure future due to health reasons, for companionship, or the owner's circumstances may have changed.
We make great efforts to care for every donkey's individual needs. Barns are fitted with heat lamps and rubber matting for the elderly, those with respiratory problems enjoy airy stables and dust free bedding, and blind donkeys, who are accompanied by their sighted friends, have padded shelters for further protection.
Over 40 welfare officers 'out in the field' are usually the first to hear about the donkeys we provide refuge to. They investigate reports of cruelty to or neglect of donkeys, they monitor markets and fairs selling equines, and check the well-being of all working donkeys.
They spend a great deal of time giving advice and support to donkey owners and this has significantly helped to reduce the unnecessary suffering of donkeys, as we can step in to help before owners experience difficulties in caring for their donkeys.
In the UK and Ireland we have never turned a donkey in need of refuge away and guarantee each one with a Sanctuary for Life.
