Donkey Parasite Study

Worming dose being administered

The Donkey Sanctuary is an international animal welfare charity working in eighteen countries around the world. It aims to prevent the suffering of donkeys and mules through the provision of high quality care, professional advice and support on donkey welfare. The Donkey Sanctuary carries out non-intrusive studies to promote the same.

Sustainable parasite control for the worldwide donkey population is an area of interest to the Donkey Sanctuary. Control of donkey parasites is becoming increasingly difficult due to increasing levels of resistance to anthelmintics. Research focusing on the unique nature of donkey parasites and their control including alternative control strategies are encouraged.

Proposals are invited for a study to be carried out in conjunction with the Donkey Sanctuary to investigate donkey parasites and alternative approaches to their control. The study should be designed to develop a broad understanding of this field in both the UK and overseas.

Clinical records and information gained during routine herd health monitoring along with post mortem material will be available. The study will not require an application for a Home Office License.

Applicants should be from the appropriate academic background with a proven track record in a relevant area of study.

Applications should be made in writing to:
