You will probably be envious reading my blog today, but with glorious sunshine, there's only one thing to do ... go and take photos of donkeys of our resident donkeys!
What started off as an amble round the fields at Trow Farm with Jen, one of the grooms, to capture donkeys in the sunshine, unfolded into a worrying time for all concerned with one of the donkeys.
Jubilee had been seen earlier in the day looking well, but as the morning went on, Jen was worried about Jubilee's laboured breathing and called the vet. Within minutes, Sophia had arrived and was checking Jubilee's heartbeat and temperature - both were extremely high. Jen put Jubilee in one of the 'hospital' boxes to rest where she was given medication and a rug soaked in cold water to try and bring her temperature down. Sophia took blood samples and she would know the results in the afternoon if there was anything serious.
We left Jubilee to rest and while Sophia was at the farm, Jen asked her if she could also check two other donkeys - Lucy and Jenny.

Lucy had ulcers in her mouth and Jen had no problem holding Lucy's mouth open for Sophia to take a look because she was such a sweet and gentle donkey. The infection looked localised and Sophia was happy that Lucy only needed her teeth cleaning thoroughly and the infection would clear up.
We had to go looking for Jenny, and as ever, she was in the furthest field. When she saw us, she obliged by walking towards us, much to Sophia's relief as she was carrying a very heavy medical bag!
Again, Sophia was fairly happy with Jenny and both she and Jen thought it would be a good idea to take her back into the cool barn for some box rest alongside Jubilee.
Before heading back to the office, I took a few more photos of donkeys, one of which is a little donkey called Just William who has recently joined a group of donkeys here at Trow Farm about a week ago and is already beginning to make new friends.
Sadly, since writing this blog, Jubilee was put to sleep in the very early hours of the following morning due to her severe breathing problems.
