The Sidmouth-based Donkey Sanctuary is delighted to announce the arrival of a new foal.
Janet Thorne was born on Wednesday 6th May but because her mother, Karray, had to complete an isolation period, Janet has been out of the public eye until now. Karray arrived at The Donkey Sanctuary in foal back in September 2008.
The isolation period is essential to the health of all new intakes and resident donkeys on the farms. New donkeys are given time to settle in, have a full veterinary check, vaccinations, farriery and worming before they can join the rest of the herd.
Dawn Vincent, the Sanctuary’s senior PR Officer, says: “It really is a delight to have a new foal in our care – not just for staff but for the visitors too! We have a no-breeding policy so it is a rare occasion for us. Janet and Karray are now living with another young foal born in October last year, and her mother. The foals are really enjoying playing together.”
Like all donkeys taken in at The Donkey Sanctuary, Janet and Karray have sanctuary for life and are guaranteed loving, expert care.
Visitors to the Sanctuary will now be able to see foals, Janet and Francesca, with their mothers Karray and Rosie at Salston Box at the main site near Sidmouth. For further information call 01395 578222.
