I so enjoyed the recent photos of the visitors and staff walking with the donkeys. I have had the privilege to walk with Jake in his field, and even though it is never as far as I would like, I always feel energized and comforted. So here is a poem to celebrate these feelings I know all of you at the Sanctuary share.
Walking Tour
There's a bit of talent involved
In walking with Donkeys
Your feet learn to sing
Even as your head holds
A dialogue with silence.
Life becomes a breath
Of a Donkey as the
Landscape goes by,
You become a song
Sung with light steps
No words need be tangled
Among the covering
Of bramble or sky.
You're on an excavation of Self
And you're digging with a Donkey
A journey you surely can't miss
With a map to your soul
Of charity and bliss.
Warmed in your heart
As your feet touch the earth
Walking steady
At a
Donkey's pace
A good place
To Be
Or not
To Be
Written on your face.
But this really is a good place
A hundred paces you go
With a Donkey together
In rain or in sun
It's for those who believe
In fun.
Down the foot path
How many steps taken?
A chance to walk with a Donkey
And call him your friend
Steps never mis-taken.
