On Tuesday 14th July a little dark brown foal was born here at the Sanctuary. We have named him Brian in memory of Brian McConnell, who used to be a donkey transport driver for the Sanctuary who sadly passed away recently.
Brian's proud mum is Maible who was relinquished into our care along with seven other new arrivals; four of them being mares and are all pregnant. Sadly the owners' circumstances had changed and they wanted to ensure that their donkeys receive the best possible care and a secure life.
Brian and Maible will stay in our Isolation Unit for a few months yet while he finds his feet and hopefully he will join our resident donkeys and be able to meet the public for the first time.
In the meantime, we hope you will enjoy this short video clip of them both.
It's quite a rare occasion for us as the Sanctuary has a no breeding policy and only have foals if a donkey is taken in already pregnant.

Maible is a very good mother! Brian is very lucky to have her! Brian is sooooooooo adorable.... I love him to bits.... He will grow to be like his mum one day!!!!

My first time ever at posting,, Oh what a darling little boy,, I bet your all so very proud of him and cleaver Maible too,, It must be hard for you all to go and get on with some work,, I don't know if I could take my eyes of such a sweetie,, Will he be staying in the Donkey communitiy when he is a grown up donkey ??? AAWW Brian is soo soo sweet. He is very lucky. He has a lovely mum and lots of nice people to look after him and he is in a safe place. He is adorable. Thank you for the video!! I luv your work at the donkey sanctuary, keep it up!!
