Skegness to Great Yarmouth

Pinky and Ripper

Today's judging was first down on Skegness beach where Sooty, contender for best individual donkey, was giving donkey rides.

Sooty is owned by the Nuttall's who are also through to the regional competition for best group of beach donkeys for the east coast. Working on Ingoldmells Beach were Macca, Rocky, Harley, Noddy, Lofty, Pedro and Alfie.

Amber was judging the donkeys early in the day because the final judging for the whole competition would be in Great Yarmouth and this would give her enough time to watch and talk to the owners before the three hour journey to Great Yarmouth.

As the morning went on and the shops around the resort began to open, it was lovely to see another sea of colours with happy families down on the beach enjoying their summer holidays.

We arrived at Great Yarmouth to meet Hayley Parker and her donkeys - Pinky, Ripper, Darcy, Max, Cracker, Willy and Vinnie - who were also being judged today for best group and individual. Amber watched the donkeys giving children rides up and down the beach, and did a radio interview for BBC Radio Norfolk who spoke to Maggie as well as some of the children.

Well, that's the end of the competition, who will be the winners? You'll have to wait until 9.00 am on Sunday 30th August!

Thanks so much for sharing your trip around the country! I have been avidly waiting for the Yarmouth report ...

I gather the Radio Norfolk piece will be going out this evening sometime between 4pm and 6pm so I shall do my best to tune in!

Sadly I had to work yesterday but did send my husband down with the camera to take a few snaps and was so pleased that you had such a gorgeous day!

I am the reporter - and owing to technical difficulties, the report did not get on air on Thursday night. Instead it was on the breakfast programme - it was broadcast twice - around 0645 and at 0850. The programme can be heard again (until Friday 5 Sept) by going to the listen again section of bbc.co.uk/norfolk - and find Stephen Bumfrey's breakfast show.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the update. I found program on BBC iPlayer :

(available until 10:02am Friday 4th September 2009)

The beach donkeys item is at 0:12 and again at 2:12 into the program.

Thanks for the info on the times of the donkey story.
