With a Donkey and a Prayer

I have been reading about and looking at the lovely pictures regarding the Candlelight evening this year in December. Oh, I will be there at the Sanctuary in spirit and will indeed have candles to light! So I wrote this poem as a kind of second part to "When Circles are Candles". How beautiful a gesture that evening will be, and pure to a Donkey's heart and life of hidden holiness.

With a Donkey and a Prayer

With a Donkey and a prayer
I sat taking measure
Of the world by moonlight.
Divine light, and a bit of gentleness
In the vast universe of things.
I light a candle in your name
Knowing that you walk
In the shadow of angels.
Those at the Sanctuary
Have learned to work
Prayerfully
Every day a small task of hope
A smile and a whisper of harmony
I watch unfold each day
Like a diamond cut with many facets
Needing only one point of light,
A Donkey and a prayer.
So I light a candle in your name
And I pray each flame
Will be the words you hear
That are no longer there.
