In two weeks’ time a Newcastle lady is running the BUPA Great North Run in aid of two charities, including The Donkey Sanctuary, based near Sidmouth in Devon.

21-year-old Becky Alderson, from Sunderland, is looking forward to running the 13 mile race on Sunday 20th September to help donkeys.
She says: “I witnessed first hand what the poor donkeys go through whilst I was in Lindos, Rhodes earlier this summer and I fell in love with them.”
“I am running to raise money and awareness for The Donkey Sanctuary because it is such a worthy cause; they do a tremendous amount of hard work at home and abroad and do not receive much publicity or thanks.”
The funds raised by Becky will be put towards the charity’s Sanctuary from Suffering campaign. This aims to improve people’s awareness of the Sanctuary’s work in developing countries and help ease the suffering of working donkeys.
The Donkey Sanctuary’s international work includes regular mobile veterinary clinics held in Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Kenya and Mexico; the charity makes no charge for its services.
Amanda Gordon, The Donkey Sanctuary’s press officer, says: “We are extremely grateful to Becky for running the marathon in aid of our Sanctuary from Suffering campaign.”
“Our teams work extremely hard to give the donkeys a chance to rest and receive expert veterinary care. They also work closely with the owners to help them understand more about their donkey’s needs. These projects provide Sanctuary from Suffering to working donkeys, and are funded entirely by donations.”
Becky will be raising funds for another charity also close to her heart, Marie Curie Cancer Care due to losing both her grandparents to cancer in the last 18 months.
Thank you Becky and good luck.
