We have two charity running places at this year’s Edinburgh Marathon , taking place on Sunday 23rd May 2010. If you're a keen runner and interested in entering the marathon, would you like to help raise money for the donkeys?
The Edinburgh Marathon is the second largest marathon in the UK after The Flora London Marathon. The 26.2 mile long scenic route has been designed for runners to see as many aspects of Scotland's wonderful capital and scenic eastern coastlines as possible.
The race has a unique atmosphere provided by en route entertainment including pipers lining the final mile to play the runners over the finish line in Holyrood Park.
You can either apply for one of The Donkey Sanctuary's assured places or run with a place you have secured yourself. Whichever option you choose The Donkey Sanctuary will support you every step of the way with a fantastic package that includes official sponsorship forms, fundraising advice and running vest.
Guaranteed places
The only difference is that in return for an assured place The Donkey Sanctuary asks you to pay a deposit of £50 and to pledge to raise a minimum of £500 from sponsorship or through fundraising activities. This requirement exists because of the higher cost to the Sanctuary of supplying and administering an assured place. On the other hand, there is no minimum pledge required for a runner who has secured his or her own place in the event.
If you would like more information about applying for one of our guaranteed places for the Edinburgh Marathon 2009, please contact Kate Bailey, our Events Co-Ordinator, or call 01395 578222.
