Tinsel and Ken Morrish get ready for crunch time

Our competition to find out which donkey should get the one-in-a-million apple has now closed and the winning donkey was … Tinsel.

On Monday 7th December the half red and half green apple was fed to an expectant Tinsel who was only too pleased to be the recipient of an extra Christmas treat. I was on hand with a camera to capture the moment but, quite understandably, Tinsel didn’t see the need to stand on ceremony and crunched up the apple in no time at all.

The apple feeding was also attended by Ken Morrish, who discovered the apple in his garden back in October. After watching Tinsel munch the apple in one bite he said ‘The apple has caused a lot of interest and smiles, it’s been great fun watching Tinsel enjoying eating it.’

The fundraising target of £144 was set to represent the Sanctuary’s average weekly bill for apples and carrots and we are thrilled that this amount was raised – thank you to all who voted.

Thanks also to Sanctuary staff Canny and Ben Hart for donating the apple to us, the pips have been saved and returned to them for cultivation. We all can’t wait to see if a whole tree of half and half apples blossoms in years to come.
