Volunteer walk guides wanted

Nelly enjoys the beautiful Sanctuary surroundings

We're looking for local outdoor enthusiasts to volunteer to lead guided walks around the Sanctuary over the summer months.

The Donkey Sanctuary is set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and there are many stunning walks for visitors to enjoy in tranquil surroundings. The Sanctuary offers comprehensive walk guide booklets but would like to continue to offer the guided walks that were so popular last year.

Volunteers will need to be reasonably fit to tackle the walks as some can take a couple of hours to complete or may have stiles and steep inclines. Enthusiasm and confidence in talking to groups of visitors is also a must.

Visitor Facilities Manager, Dean Hancock, says ‘The Sanctuary is set in such beautiful countryside that it is a pleasure to walk around. We’d like to be able to offer our visitors some extra information about this very special area and believe that nothing beats the personal touch. For people who would like to get out and about or would like to learn more about their local area then this offers a great opportunity to get involved in the work of the Sanctuary.’

Volunteers would be given full training, including background information about the history of the Sanctuary and, of course, the donkeys.

For more information, please contact Dean Hancock on 01395 573005.
