Never Say No to a Donkey

Tagged:

Many many years ago I remember watching a film called 'Never say No to a Donkey'. It is a story about a little boy who owned a donkey called Violetta - she became ill and he thought he would take her to see The Pope in a hope that she could be cured. I recall seeing it later on television, it is a really old black and white film and it had me hooked on these adorable animals. Does anyone out there recall having seen this film or, hearing of it? I have tried to track it down to no avail.

I would love to hear from anyone who has ever seen it.

Doreen

Yes Doreen, I saw this film on TV many years ago but I'm afraid I don't know any details of it. In fact I didn't even recall the title until I read your message. Mention of the Pope and 'Violetta' aroused my memory of the charming film. I agree it would be lovely to see it again.

If I ever track down this film, I will post a comment here, in the hope you will see it.
Good luck in the hunt.

Sylvia.

Adding to my earlier comment: I'm pretty sure the film was based on a story by Paul Gallico "The Small Miracle". I just looked on Google and that story is described as a small boy wishing to take his sick donkey "Violetta" for blessing by St, Francis but needs permission from the Pope. Take a look and see what you think. I've never read this story but have read others by Paul Gallico and loved them.

Sylvie.

Thanks Sylvie,

I will endeavour to track book and purchase - Paul Gallico never entered my head- he's a great writer on cats as well - have several of his books. Will post outcome, and again, many thanks.

I have located the VHS of this (in America) and will send you a copy DVD when it arrives. Please let me know if you are interested. Paul.

Thank you so much for your reply Paul. I would love to have a copy.
If you reply to this to let me know how I go about receiving this I will be so grateful.

Just a reminder to make sure that the copy is in PAL format for U.K. viewing. If it's a U.S. VHS it will need to be transcoded from NTSC to PAL or it won't be viewable. Unless, of course, one has an all-region DVD player...

Thank you for the information Neal, I will bear it in mind if I hear from Paul
