Passing on our knowledge to Canadian donkeys

Harvey with a visitor from Canada

Passing on our knowledge to Canadian donkeys today, I had the privilege of meeting and spending time with Kim Hayes, the new Operations Manager from a similar organisation to ours called The Donkey Sanctuary of Canada, which is based near Toronto in North America.

Kim visited our charity in June on a fact finding trip and told me that she felt “the scope of The Donkey Sanctuary is just mind boggling”.

Kim’s organisation carries out similar work to that of ours in Europe - providing refuge for donkeys, mules and hinnies who have been neglected, abused or who can no longer be cared for by their owners.

Kim was telling me that The Donkey Sanctuary of Canada is going through a rapid period of growth and amongst their future plans they’re planning to purchase a new farm to cope with the number of donkeys needing their help. As we’ve experienced these problems at The Donkey Sanctuary, we were happy to show Kim our farms so she could look at the barn designs and gather ideas for her donkeys back in Canada.

It’s wonderful to be able to share our knowledge and experience with a like-minded organisation based more than 3,500 miles from Sidmouth! We hope we have equipped Kim with the advice and support she hoped for to enhance what is already a great project helping the donkeys of Canada.
