Judy and Alan Bishop from Colchester in Essex made a special visit to the Sidmouth-based Donkey Sanctuary on Judy’s 60th birthday to hand deliver a donation of £150.00 to help donkeys worldwide.

Judy and Alan hired a chauffer driven Mercedes to make the event extra special and made the 500 mile round trip from their home in Colchester to Sidmouth, to spend the day visiting the donkeys and to donate £150.00 to the charity. Judy has been busy saving the money to buy fly masks and help maintain mobile units for working donkeys in Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Kenya and Mexico after reading about the Sanctuary’s overseas work.

Judy said “We decided to donate the money to the Sanctuary because I can’t tell you how much Alan and I admire the work of The Donkey Sanctuary here in the UK and abroad. We are involved with quite a few charities and this one is exemplary; if they were all run as well as this one the world would be a better place”

Judy presented the cheque to Claire Shapcott, the Sanctuary’s PR Assistant, who says: “Judy and Alan have made a very kind gesture, and we are so grateful to them for supporting us as we rely entirely on donations, and without the help of people like them we would not be able to continue to help donkeys around the world. It was a real pleasure to meet them and help celebrate Judy’s birthday. Thank you.”

In these difficult economic times, the charity is not alone in feeling the financial squeeze and is affected by the increase in donkeys being relinquished into its care each month because their owners can no longer afford to keep their well-loved donkeys. Any donation, no matter how small, is always gratefully received. ##
