The Bridge That Donkeys Cross

What is it about Donkeys that makes us nostalgic? I look at them, think of them, and I want to go home. Home to Michigan? Home to North Carolina? Home to Switzerland, Italy, Germany? Home to my heart? my soul? I have recently found in the "public records" on the internet my two childhood "homes". I've searched them as thoroughly as I can, going there each day looking, just looking for my mother, father, my grandmother. I've walked in my mind's eye the manicured streets, the well kept sidewalks, the elementary school and the park, only a block away from our home. I wish I could walk with a Donkey through our neighborhood - those empty streets with their good sidewalks. Secure - that's it - It feels secure and loved. So perhaps this is what Donkeys bring to so many of us who "can't go home again". Love - Security - Home. A sure step to one's heart. To one's true home.

The Bridge That Donkeys Cross

Donkeys are emotional animals
They see
They hear
They feel
They help us overcome real difficulties
Knowing that only the imaginary
Is unconquerable.
A remarkable quietness
That tells us they love work
And they love human beings.
As we loiter through life
Thinking it dreary,
Donkeys laugh in their idleness
Knowing that hard work
Is the only holiday humans really need
Work hard.
Do good.
Cross that bridge to your self
Then convince a Donkey you are worth following.
