I have a confession to make. Since the Poitou webcam has been installed...I have heartily neglected all those I've come to love so dear in the Main Barn! And right now, this morning I went straight again to the Poitous. I started feeling guilty at once, so off I switched to the Main Barn inside and out - and to my surprise and dismay - no donkeys anywhere! So here is my apologetic verse (albeit cheeky) to those I still hold close but have wandered from. - Jenny B.

Sorry I Missed You, I Was Dancing In the Garden

Dear Little Pippa, Freddie, Nelly and all
Forgive me, for I've had quite a fall,
My eyes and heart have strayed you'll see
To the giants sublime across the lea.

Your big beautiful cousins
Are like fine wine
I want nought but to hold one great ear
And make it mine!
Sipping in their shadows
I lose myself in their largeness
As I watch them pass or stand still
Just one imagined glimpse from Torrent
And I'm giddy for days!
My head may not be
Any bigger than his nose
And it would take hours to brush
That vast sea on four hooves.

It's a sweet thing, friendship
A balm of calm
And all Donkeys are flowers
Just like roses they are.
My garden of Donkeys
Is all blooming now
Large and small, in beloved light
Radiant, gentle equine tones
Coloring my solitude, my refuge and pure delight.
I wander through Donkey Moonflowers, Petunias and Lilies
But I find myself lost in a field
Of Sunflowers, giants pointing to heaven
As all earth's in commotion.

Like the prodigal child at last
I returned to my smaller blossoms of Donks
Only to find you all gone
And my heart was aghast!
Forgive me please my neglect,
And return to my view
I'll weave my words into truth
And they'll speak just for you.
I know fully well
It's all your delicate faces express
Seeking wisdom from all
I've learned an important lesson
All great things in the world
Start from the small.
