Around 50% of the donkeys on our farms are over 25 years old and every year we work to improve the facilities and care for the ageing population. Our experience and historical knowledge are unrivalled and we are able to pass on this valuable information to donkey owners everywhere through our welfare officers, training courses, workshops, literature, and by posting information on our website.

At Trow Farm, which is adjacent to Slade House Farm, the fitter donkeys live in the larger groups which have rubber matting on the floors and shavings for bedding and the older donkeys with special needs are housed in pairs (with their bonded friends) in the "Naughty Face" and "Donkey Weeker" stable areas where their particular bedding and feeding requirements can be catered for. There are heat lamps for the donkeys to stand under when the weather is colder. The donkeys are all kept busy through the day with a good supply of low calorie straw and a carefully calculated ration of our homemade haylage.

The donkeys with poor dentition have a diet of a fibre based chop and pellet feed that can be soaked for easy digestion so that we are sure that they have the all the nutrients they need.

Our dedicated team of staff make sure that the donkeys are groomed and their hooves picked out regularly, they wipe their eyes and keep an eye on the donkey’s personal hygiene.
