A Donkey Summer Fair is being held in Flagg near Buxton on Sunday 5th September 2010 between 10.00am and 4.00pm and it’s free to attend!

The Donkey Sanctuary’s Derbyshire Centre is holding its biggest family fundraising event of the year. Visitors can get ‘hands on’ with the donkeys, enjoy donkey walking and grooming sessions and meet the staff, including talks and demonstrations from the vet and farrier.

Chris Pile who runs the centre says: “There is something for everyone at our Summer Fair from face painting, bouncy castle, games such as guess the weight of the donkey, coconut shie, stalls, BBQ, donkey goods for sale, and grand raffle with cash prizes to be won and much, much more - it really is going to be a fun day out.

“By supporting our Summer Fair you will help us continue to raise funds as we rely entirely on donations to carry out our work.”

The Centre provides permanent refuge to a small number of donkeys who are elderly or have long-term medical conditions. Other donkeys are provided with respite care until they are fit enough to travel to the main Sanctuary in Sidmouth, Devon. An on-site training centre provides a choice of courses in donkey care and welfare.

The centre holds Open Days and hosts regular training courses for donkey owners. It has recently launched a new website to enable virtual visits to the centre in between open days.

The Derbyshire Centre is on the A515 Ashbourne Road near the Bull i’ th’ Thorn Inn, six miles south of Buxton. For more information, visit our Derbyshire Centre webpage or call (01298) 83866.
