Let me introduce myself. I'm Keith and am a Quality Time Volunteer (QTV) with my wife, Maggie, at East Axnoller Farm in Dorset and we would like to tell you about Wogan, our hero this week.
We have known Wogan for many years, as he has always lived with our own donkeys since they came to live at the Sanctuary over 19 years ago. For the past 17 years, thanks to Steve, the Manager at the farm, we have been lucky enough to spend every Sunday with our donkeys and all their friends living there. Over the years we have met many wonderful characters and have had great pleasure in getting to know all their different personalities and ways. They never cease to amaze and delight us.
We enjoy our time so much with the donkeys that since March 2010 when we became "official" QTVs we have now added Tuesdays to our regular Sunday visits..
There is never a dull moment when we are at the farm, as there are four groups of donkeys and three groups of mules, ponies and horses to keep us busy. But no matter how busy we are, we always make time to to spend some quality time with the "oldies" group. Wogan our hero lives here.
Wogan has always been quite shy and timid and liked to keep himself to himself, which we have always respected. However, a few weeks ago we noticed that he seemed more relaxed. He actually came to us occasionally instead of us always going to see him, and when we groomed him he was more willing to stay a bit longer than usual.
Then, joy of joys, last week when we went out to the paddock where the oldies were grazing, Wogan saw us from the top of the field and came "galloping" down to greet us, braying all the way. What a result after all these years! We gave him a big cuddle and a good brush, and for the rest of the afternoon he followed us everywhere. He made our day and we are so happy that this old chap has finally learned to trust us and be loved.

Thank you for sharing the happenings of this wondeful occasion. It must have been such a surprise. I hope that you have many more happy encounters with Wogan.
What a wonderful story to start the week with. I am so glad that dear Wogan seems to have become a blithe spirit and can no longer conceal his love for you! Every conscious creature longs to be loved, I believe this is also "part of nature". I'm sure Wogan begged your patience all this years. Thank you for having the patience of great love for Wogan and I wish you many years of his love in return.
A Donkey's virtue is our privilege to witness.

Hi Keith
What a lovely story about Wogan! It must have been a really special moment for you and Maggie when he came down the hill to greet you.
It's good to hear about the experiences of other QTVs on other farms too. I work as a QTV at Slade House Farm with my husband Phil.... but we're novices compared to you with your many years of experience! We love it though and work every Monday with the donks.
