The Donkey Sanctuary is shocked and appalled to learn that the latest protests in Lahore regarding the cricket fixing scandal involved the use of donkeys in a procession. Numerous news reports have indicated that the poor animals were slapped by angry protesters, and pelted at with rotten tomatoes and shoes.

Donkeys are gentle, kind, sensitive creatures and stoical by nature. Sadly it is our experience that these qualities mean they often fall victim to senseless abuse and derision.

As a charity working to protect donkeys and mules and promote their welfare worldwide, we condemn all persons responsible for subjecting these donkeys to distress, fear and ridicule and consider it a totally unacceptable act of cruelty. We thank our supporters for alerting us to the plight of these donkeys.
