Life before the Press Office

Amanda Gordon with Harvey

Hi my name is Amanda and I’m pictured here with my favourite donkey, Harvey!

I work in the press office and have been working for The Donkey Sanctuary since 2003. I haven’t always worked in the press office though. I started by working as a General Assistant where my duties were quite varied. Most of the time I worked in the Stores department which meant I issued uniform to staff, paints, brushes, etc to our Maintenance team and issued donkey goodies to the grooms.

As part of my job I helped out in other departments which were short staffed or just in need of extra help.

Dawn Vincent, the Sanctuary’s PR Officer, needed a hand so I helped her with jobs such as monitoring press coverage, filing and answering the telephone.

As time went on, Dawn and I bounced ideas off each other for future press opportunities and we worked well as a team. I attended media training courses and the workload naturally increased (as did The Donkey Sanctuary and EST - and they continue to do so).

In 2006 my ambition to work in the press office, full time, came true and I was lucky enough to be promoted to PR Assistant for both The Donkey Sanctuary and the Elisabeth Svendsen Trust for Children and Donkeys (EST), our sister charity.
