Nine year old Mollie Bratt is set to hold her fourth annual Donkey Days fundraiser in aid of The Donkey Sanctuary at her home in Newby, North Yorkshire, this weekend (Saturday 19 – Sunday 20 May 2012).
Every year, Mollie and her family invite members of their local community to meet 17 year old Jacob and 23 year old Rebecca, the donkeys that they foster through The Donkey Sanctuary. Visitors can learn about donkey care, purchase handmade crafts and sample delicious home-baked cakes made with locally sourced eggs.
Mollie aims to raise £200 this year for the international animal welfare charity. She explains why she enjoys holding the events:
“I love Donkey Days as I get to make lots of crafts and bake with my friends and family and I like to help all the other donkeys like Jacob and Rebecca. It’s a really fun time and we also like to chat to all our neighbours in the village. I hope it’s sunny and lots of our friends come. We have made lots of gorgeous and exciting crafts and my friend Kitty and I are going to be doing a talk on donkey care and you can come and meet our donkeys!”
Emma Gill, PR Officer for The Donkey Sanctuary, adds: “The Donkey Sanctuary is funded entirely by donations, and we are very grateful to our supporters who raise vital funds to enable our worldwide work to continue. We wish Mollie and her family all the best for their Donkey Days this weekend, and hope lots of people turn out to support them, learn about donkey care and enjoy some tasty treats.”
