George joins in the Jubilee spirit with a right royal picnic

The Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth is inviting visitors to share in its Diamond Jubilee celebrations over the June half term holiday (2nd – 10th June).

What better way to enjoy the sunshine than to join the charity’s first ever coastal picnic with some of the resident donkeys? Families are invited to join the charity’s events team on Friday 8th June, 10am – 1:30pm, for a walk down to the coast with the donkeys, beach games, and a picnic in the National Trust’s Weston Plats nature reserve (as recently featured on BBC’s Coast programme).

Also new for the June half term is Donkey Dudes on Wednesday 6th June, 10:30am – 3:30pm, where budding donkey grooms can spend some one-to-one time with a donkey from the charity’s events team. A 20 minute session introduces them to the basics of donkey care and they will leave with a certificate detailing what they have learnt.

Throughout the week, families are invited to join in the fun with a Royal Donkey Holiday Hunt (2nd – 10th June, all day), and children can enjoy face-painting and getting creative making their own crowns as part of the charity’s Royal Creation Station (Thursday 7th June, 11am – 3pm).

Claire Shapcott, Events Supervisor at The Donkey Sanctuary, says: “This half term is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in the company of donkeys. Our fun-packed programme of events will keep children entertained over the half term break and offers great days out for all the family. We hope lots of people will visit The Donkey Sanctuary this half term, join in our events and meet our lovely resident donkeys.”
