On the move...

Going to see the donkeys

I'm saying goodbye to my friends here at Hurfords as Lady is moving up to the Main Yard over at Slade House Farm. Of course, wherever my best friend goes, I'm sure to follow!

Alan Brown, who manages Trow Farm which Hurfords is part of, has kindly dropped by to take us for the short journey up to the Main Yard. I'm really excited and am first up into the box to check the accommodation. With a quick nod to Lady, she joins me. Before the door is closed, our lovely grooms, Kelly and Nicky, who have looked after us so well, come and give us a cuddle and promise to come over to see us.

We're on our way ... I hear donkeys braying. We must have arrived. I can't wait to meet new friends. I've heard so much about the Main Yard. Rumour has it that we can wander about on the yard and mingle with the visitors. I'm a very sociable donkey and am looking forward to meeting everyone!

At last the door is opened and we step off the ramp. We're led through lots of people wanting to stroke us and talk to us.

I know I'm going to really enjoy living here and Lady too. My dear friend has been suffering with something called laminitis which makes her feet very sore. At Hurfords our field was fairly steep, which she had to struggle with. Our vet came over to see her last week and having chatted with Kelly and Nicky, they decided Lady would be better joining the laminitic group where she will find the going a little easier on her feet.

We've met a new vet too. His name is Ramesh Kumar and he's over here for six months working with the vets here at the Sanctuary. I hear he works for the Sanctuary over in India where he helps treat sick donkeys.

Well, it's box rest for Lady for a few days, so we're in one of the stables down on the Main Yard. Already we've received a few visitors and some donkeys have put their noses over the stable door to say hello. This is just heaven!

Hi Pippa
My name is eric and bossy woman has just given me your blog to read. apparently she heard about it from two legs. so sorry you had to be moved - it is so traumatic - but can be better in the end. my big brother rupert and i used to live on a fish farm near carlise and i dreaded being moved - but rupert said wait and see - it might be better. and it is - we even have broadband here.
anyway - how did the move go. how are things now?

Hi Eric

Where do you and Rupert live? Me and my friend Lady are quite enjoying it over here. We've made new friends and when we're out on the Main Yard, we see lots of people too who come over and chat and give us lots of cuddles. Let us know your blog address so we can go and take a look :-)
