In the Debre Zeit area of Ethiopia there are a staggering 76,000 working donkeys. Many suffer harness wounds caused through ill-fitting tack and excessive loads.
Ababu, a 50 year old grandmother of four, trekked for over 2 hours with her donkey to reach our clinic.
Her donkey needed treatment for a painful back sore. After receiving veterinary attention, Ababu received a free therapeutic saddle for her donkey to take the pressure off the wound whilst it healed, thereby allowing the donkey to continue to work.
Like many families, Ababu is so dependent upon her donkey to carry food and water that she simply could not afford to allow her animal to rest during its recovery.
