Rosie in foal

Rosie, a 12 year old mare arrived at the Sanctuary in April 2008 with Little Billy, a 14 year old male donkey. As with all new arrivals to the Sanctuary, both Rosie and Little Bill will be in our Isolation Unit for their settling in period so that vaccinations, farriery and worming can be updated before they are moved to one of our farms.

When Rosie came into the Sanctuary, she was already in foal. A scan has been performed to make sure everything is going well for mum and the unborn foal. It's quite a rare occasion for us as we have a no breeding policy and only have foals if a donkey is taken in already pregnant.

The gestation period for a donkey can vary from 11 to 14 months from the last date of the service.

Just like all the other foals that have been born at the Sanctuary, Rosie's foal will be given sanctuary for life.
