Town Barton Farm

Shrek and Jacko

Town Barton Farm is managed by Paul Carter and lies on the edge of Dartmoor in the village of Tedburn St Mary.

We have owned this farm since 1982 and it spreads over 57 hectares (140 acres) of land. It is a beautiful setting for yet more of our humble donkeys as it is situated on the edge of Dartmoor National Park.

Along with all the donkeys at Town Barton Farm, there is a growing number of mules and hinnies coming in from the UK and from Ireland. This does give the farm a slightly different working programme than some of the other Sanctuary farms.

In 2007, BBC Animals 24/7 filmed the rescued a donkey and a mule near Heathrow which was shown on primetime television on 28th February 2008. At the time of the rescue, Shrek the mule had long misshapen feet when we found him, and his friend Jacko, had a skin complaint which caused hair loss and bald patches. Thankfully they are both doing really well and live here at Town Barton Farm.
