The Donkey Sanctuary has joined together once again with World Expeditions, a company specialising in charity treks, and organised a fabulous sponsored walking challenge in the northern region of India, including a special visit to the wild donkey reserve as well as the opportunity to experience first-hand the work that is carried out by our mobile clinics. The challenge will take place on 14-27 May 2011.
The spectacular Dhauladhar range rising high above the Indian plains affords superb possibilities for both the Himalayan devotee as well as the first time trekker. This five day introductory to moderate level trek will follow trails linking sacred lakes, ancient temples and secluded Hindu villages and you will camp for four nights in verdant alpine meadows set beneath the snow capped backdrop of the Dhauladhar.
The pinnacle of the challenge is the ascent to the Indrahar Pass (4,350 metres) and the crest of the Dhauladhar where your efforts will be rewarded by panoramic views of the Indian Plains and the impressive Pir Panjal Range.
Time in the bustling Tibetan Buddhist town of McLeod Ganj, home to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and his Tibetan government in exile, adds a further dimension to this memorable challenge.
The sponsored walking challenge will finish with a train ride to Ahmedabad and from there, you will be taken to the salt marsh area of Gujarat where the Wild Ass Sanctuary is located and is one of the last places on earth where the endangered wild ass can be spotted.
The final day will be spent in Ahmedabad where you will have the unique opportunity to see aspects of the work The Donkey Sanctuary carries out in this area. Precise details will depend on the team's priorities at the time of your visit but may include routine veterinary care, education and harness work. Not only will you be able to see first-hand the valuable work we are currently undertaking overseas but also through your sponsorship money, you will be helping to contribute towards this fantastic work throughout the world.
Sponsorship
Minimum sponsorship: £2,500 (this includes the £300 deposit, flights, transfers, guides, accommodation, food and a donation to The Donkey Sanctuary ).
The profits from participating in the Dharamsala Sponsored Walking Challenge will be used to fund our work overseas.
