60 male donkeys and horses on the island of Grand Turk will be castrated this week by the Sidmouth-based Donkey Sanctuary. It is one of the largest breeding control programmes ever to be conducted by the charity.
Cyprus
In 2007, we established a subsidiary organisation called Donkey Sanctuary (Cyprus) to enable us to take over from the Friends of the Cyprus Donkey.
Situated in Vouni in the foothills of the Troodos mountains, the sanctuary is currently home to over 120 donkeys and we will provide their future care.
We can also continue to offer sanctuary for life to any other donkeys in need of refuge in Cyprus and carry out outreach work to working donkeys and mules and their owners on the island who may need our help.

As one door closes another one opens...
The old saying "as one door closes another one opens" proved true when the intended holding base we had lined up unfortunately fell through in Cyprus. However, in less than a week, we were contacted by a local man who was asking if we fostered out donkeys. When he heard we were looking for a holding base he asked if we would consider him.
