Admission

The Sanctuary is open 365 days a year from 9.00 am to dusk with free admission.

Parking

• Please park in designated areas.
• We offer designated areas for disabled parking.
• Please do not leave dogs in hot cars (dogs are very welcome to join you on your visit).

Visitors' Centre

• In the Visitors' Centre you will be able to learn about our work through the information displays, and perhaps buy some of our goods that are on sale. Our friendly staff will be able to help you with any queries.

Refreshments

• The Hayloft Restaurant offers a selection of hot and cold dishes, daily specials, sandwiches, cream teas, ice creams and picnic "Nosebags".
• Picnic areas can be found on the banks by the EST Centre and at the rustic barn near the Hayloft Restaurant.

Walks

• A guide book containing information about all the walks around the Sanctuary is available from the Visitors' Centre.
• Walk A: central walk.
• Walk B: for the more energetic.
• Walk C: take in the maze.
• Walk D: a stroll to the beach.
• Walk E: a bit of heritage.

Wheelchair and pushchair access

• Walk A around the main grounds is suitable for both buggies and wheelchairs.
• Wheelchair user-friendly gate catches are used on Walk A.
• Wheelchairs are available to borrow from the Visitors' Centre.
• Weather permitting, several of the Sanctuary's other walks leading on to more donkey groups are fairly level and could be considered by individuals (at their own risk) as suitable.

Nature Centre and conservation area

• The Nature Centre is open from April to September.
• Information about the flora and fauna in this area of the Sanctuary is on display.
• Nesting boxes can be found in this area, so look out for some of our feathered residents.
• Explore the Hermitage, a house carved out of stone in the hillside in 1824.
• Visit the Quarry composed of upper greensand and sedimentary deposits formed during the early Cretaceous period.

Field of dreams

• The meadow beside the Nature Centre is a special area set aside for the field of dreams funds.

Toilets and baby changing facilities

• There is a block near the disabled car park and a block opposite the Hayloft Restaurant.

Hand washing facilities

• We recommend that you wash your hands after handling the donkeys, especially before eating.
• Washing facilities can be found in the Main Yard and in the toilet blocks.

Public telephone

• A traditional red telephone box is situated opposite the Hayloft Restaurant.

Dogs

• Dogs are very welcome to join you on your visit, although please ensure they are kept on a lead at all times.
• In the interest of hygiene and to make walking pleasant for all, please clear up after your dogs. Disposal bins are situated around the Sanctuary.

First aid

• Staff at the Visitors' Centre hold a first aid kit.

Feeding

• Please do not attempt to feed the donkeys; it only encourages them to expect food from everyone and fingers can look deceptively like carrots to a donkey!
• You are invited to pass any donkey treats you may bring in to the staff in the Visitors' Centre who will ensure they are distributed to the donkeys at feeding time.

No Smoking

• Smoking is not allowed in the Main Yard and areas of high fire risk.
• Please take notice of all No Smoking signs around the Sanctuary.
