Woods Farm is one of the closest farms to the main Sanctuary based at Slade House Farm and is managed by Jim Pinn. It has an enormous 80 hectares (197 acres) of land and has provided sanctuary to many donkeys and specialises in the care of bad breathers, donkeys with laminitis, skin problems and those on diets.

The first manager of Woods Farm was Rob Nichols who now heads the overseas team for developing countries.

It's interesting to note that both Neil Coles was transferred with the farm. Neil worked for Rob for some time before becoming farm manager at Paccombe Farm.

From the start, Tansi Miller (now Tansi Ash) worked at Woods Farm for many years before joining the Human Resources Department. Paul Carter, now farm manager at Town Barton Farm, also worked on the farm before moving on to farm management.

Rob recalls "During some building and renovation work many years ago, a gate was left open and a large group of donkeys escaped in all directions! A passing school bus was flagged down, and a member of staff jumped on and managed to head off one group that was heading towards Tipton. All back safely but with stories to tell".

The Donkey Sanctuary bought Woods Farm from a farmer called Tony Reid in 1989 who kept chickens as well as outdoor pigs and a small dairy herd. The current hay barn now stands on the site of the chicken sheds.

The recycling centre at Woods was part of the farm and was given to the council by Tony Reid on the understanding that if they ever changed the use of the site, it would revert to the farm. His farm was extended with the addition of 70 acres purchased from Stuart Williams who then owned the farm on Fire Beacon Lane at Bowd.
